Cafe Team Member

About the Position

Berman Hebrew Academy, located in Rockville, Maryland, seeks a team member to work in the Brett & Alana Fine Cafe. This person works according to the academic calendar.

The core hours of the position are approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with shorter hours on Friday. Flexibility is important, as occasional earlier weekday, evening and Sunday hours may be required.

The ideal candidate has experience in a service and hospitality environment and is able to maintain high standards of quality, efficiency, and professionalism in a dynamic setting. Responsibilities include front-of-house support, kitchen production support, flexible operational coverage, ability to shift between customer service and prep, fast-paced multitasking, comfort with competing priorities.

Core Responsibilities

Cafe Operations and Service

• Serve high-quality food, beverages, and light fare to students, staff, and the broader community
• Provide consistent, welcoming, and professional customer service
• Process computer-based and credit card transactions accurately and efficiently
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-functioning cafe environment at all times
• Foster a culture of warmth, friendliness, teamwork, and respect in the Cafe

Kashrut Oversight

• Supervise and uphold Kashrut observance in accordance with school standards and policies
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and preparation procedures are followed consistently

Food Program Execution

• Prepare and oversee preparation of cafe menu items in alignment with established recipes, standards, and operational needs
• Ensure consistent quality, portioning, and presentation of menu items
• Coordinate workflow to support timely service during peak periods

Operational Coordination

• Support day-to-day functioning of the Cafe, including organization of supplies and workflow
• Assist with maintaining systems that support efficient service and food preparation
• Communicate proactively regarding operational needs that impact service quality

Additional Responsibilities

• Perform additional duties as needed to support the successful operation of the Cafe

The wage is $23/hour. This position reports to the Program Director of the Brett & Alana Fine Cafe.
