College Guidance

At Berman Hebrew Academy, we understand that preparing for college is a journey that involves careful preparation and holistic, personalized guidance.

At Berman Hebrew Academy, our College Guidance Team partners with students and families from the very beginning of high school to prepare them for success beyond graduation. Comprised of experienced professionals who understand the ever-evolving college admissions landscape, our team offers a personalized, student-centered approach that reflects the individuality of each learner. Through one-on-one meetings, workshops, and strategic planning sessions, we guide students in identifying their strengths, exploring a wide range of college options, and crafting authentic applications that reflect their academic achievements, personal values, and aspirations.

From selecting courses and extracurricular activities to drafting essays and navigating financial aid, our counselors walk beside each student and family every step of the way. The result is not just polished applications—but confident, well-prepared graduates who understand their goals and are ready to thrive in the next stage of their academic journeys.

College Guidance Calendar

Our College Guidance Calendar is packed with workshops, presentations, and special programs aimed at preparing students for the college application process. In addition to our individualized counseling, we offer parent, family, and student-specific programming. Here are some of our yearly highlights:

Family Programs
  • 12th Grade Parents: Hosted in the beginning of the school year, this detailed presentation provides our 12th grade parents the opportunity to learn more about the pivotal senior year and the support they can expect.
  • 11th Grade Family College Guidance Kickoff: Hosted in the Fall, we offer our 11th grade families the opportunity to dive deeper into the college guidance and application process.
  • 9th and 10th Grade Family Program: “Welcome to High School – What’s Important to Know Now About Preparing for College?”
  • School-wide College Fair & Program: Hosted by and at Berman Hebrew Academy, this is a great opportunity to meet with college admissions representatives.
  • Little Known Secrets of Paying for College: Get valuable insights into financing college education.
  • Being Jewish on College Campuses: Explore the realities of Jewish life on an array of campuses.
  • Coffee/Chai and College Conversation: Informal parent meet-ups with our college counseling team to discuss college-related topics.
Student Programs
  • 9th Grade: Focus on PSAT preparation, building a strong, rigorous course foundation, and participate in career/interest inventory exploration.
  • 10th Grade: Join us for an ACT/SAT Diagnostic Testing program, followed by standardized testing tips in March.
  • 11th Grade: Start your college search in early 2025. Resume building and essay writing workshops begin in February and April respectively, with personal statement work time in English classes throughout the Spring.
  • 12th Grade: Kick off senior year with our Common App Bootcamp followed by weekly “flex” college guidance sessions, and 1-to-1 application support meetings through application deadlines.

In addition to the programs offered, our College Guidance Team brings admissions representatives to campus, makes college visits, and participates in professional development opportunities – relating to college admissions generally and the needs of Jewish students specifically – throughout the school year.

We look forward to serving your family on this exciting journey! Please email collegeguidance@mjbha.org to be in touch.
