At Berman Hebrew Academy, we understand that preparing for college is a journey that involves students and their families from the very beginning of upper school.

Our College Guidance Team, comprised of seasoned professionals with deep knowledge of the college admissions process, has designed a comprehensive College Guidance program to support our students and families every step of the way. Our team provides personalized advice, structured planning, and key resources to help our students achieve their higher education goals. This dedicated support ensures that every Berman student has the tools and confidence to navigate the complexities of college admissions successfully.

College Guidance Calendar

Our College Guidance Calendar is packed with workshops, presentations, and special programs aimed at preparing students for the college application process. In addition to our individualized counseling, we offer parent, family, and student-specific programming. Here are some of our yearly highlights:

Parent Programs
  • 12th Grade Parents: Hosted in the beginning of the school year, this detailed presentation provides our 12th grade parents the opportunity to learn more about the pivotal senior year and the support you can expect.
  • Information Nights for 9th & 10th Grade Parents: Learn what to expect each year and how to best support your child’s educational aspirations.
  • Coffee/Chai and College Conversation: A monthly informal meet-up to discuss college-related topics.
Family Programs
  • 11th Grade Family College Guidance Kickoff: Hosted in the Fall, we offer our 11th grade families the opportunity to dive deeper into the college guidance and application process.
  • 9th and 10th Grade Family Program: “Welcome to High School – What’s Important to Know Now About Preparing for College?”
  • School-wide College Fair & Program: Hosted by and at Berman Hebrew Academy, this is a great opportunity to meet with college admissions representatives.
  • Little Known Secrets of Paying for College: Get valuable insights into financing college education.
  • Being Jewish on College Campuses: Explore the realities of Jewish life and antisemitism in colleges.
Student Programs
  • 9th Grade: Focus on PSAT preparation in October and participate in career inventory sessions in March.
  • 10th Grade: Take the PSAT in October and join us for ACT/SAT Diagnostic Testing in January, followed by standardized testing tips from expert Nikkee Porcaro in March.
  • 11th Grade: Dive into college recommendations in September, refine your testing skills in October/November, and start your college search in early 2025. Resume building and essay writing workshops begin in February and April respectively.
  • 12th Grade: Kick off your senior year with our Common App Bootcamp in early September, follow up with detailed Naviance sessions, and refine your application essays and interview skills in the fall.

In addition to the programs offered, our College Guidance Team brings admissions representatives to campus, makes college visits, and participates in professional development opportunities, both in the Judaic and Secular fields.
