Introducing Our New Middle School Principal

February 8, 2021

We are thrilled to introduce Ms. Shira Loewenstein as our new Middle School Principal. Ms. Loewenstein will join our administrative team this summer.

In our search for a Middle School Principal, our priorities were to hire someone that will execute on a vision of academic excellence and religious inspiration for our Middle School, create a positive culture that will engage and support our student body and families, develop our faculty, and partner with the Lower and Upper School administrations to ensure seamless transitions. After an extensive, international search and interview process involving all of our stakeholders, facilitated by Scott Goldberg Consulting, Ms. Loewenstein emerged as the perfect candidate to lead our Middle School division in all of these areas.

Ms. Loewenstein has spent the majority of her career in the field of Jewish education. For ten years, she taught both General and Judaic studies to middle school and upper elementary students. She was both a teacher leader and director in her middle school, advancing both the social and educational development for her students. She also served as a mentor teacher for beginning teachers through the Delet program. She served as Director for Yeshiva University School Partnership and Prizmah: Center for Jewish Day Schools for seven years, leading national programs for teacher development including the New Teacher Induction Program. Currently, she leads professional development workshops for Jewish day school and public school educators around North America.

Ms. Loewenstein earned her bachelor’s degree from Barnard College at Columbia University in math and statistics and her Master of Arts in Teaching from Brandeis University through the Delet program. She is currently working on completing her doctoral dissertation through Yeshiva University writing about teacher leadership in Jewish day schools.

Ms. Loewenstein looks forward to cultivating a community of excited and engaged learners at Berman Hebrew Academy who want to learn for the love of learning. She believes in deep content mastery and a firm dedication to Torah values.

We will create opportunities for parents, teachers, and our community to connect with Ms. Loewenstein in the coming months. We look forward to welcoming Ms. Loewenstein and her family to our Berman community this coming summer. Please join me in showing them a warm welcome.
