Food Service Director

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Food Service Director to oversee the food service operations of a Jewish day school, serving approximately 700 students/200 staff members and providing 50,000 meals per year. The Food Service Director will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations, supervising a team of four employees, and ensuring compliance with kosher dietary regulations and providing food for the school’s cafe. Additionally, the role involves coordinating and managing a food service company affiliated with the school. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in food service management, a strong understanding of kosher food requirements, and a passion for delivering high-quality meals to a diverse student population.

Responsibilities:

Food Service Operations:

  • Develop and implement strategies to efficiently provide 50,000 meals per year, ensuring nutritional quality and adherence to dietary guidelines.
  • Manage all aspects of food preparation, including menu planning, purchasing, and inventory control.
  • Ensure compliance with kosher dietary regulations and oversee the preparation and service of kosher meals.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in accordance with food safety and kosher standards.
  • Monitor food quality, presentation, and portion sizes, ensuring high standards are consistently met.

Staff Management:

  • Supervise and provide guidance to a team of four employees, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development opportunities.
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively, ensuring smooth operations and efficient workflow.

Catering Management:

  • Oversee the catering operations associated with the school, including menu planning, pricing, and coordination of events.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their specific catering needs and ensure successful event execution.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction, gather feedback, and make necessary adjustments to enhance catering services.

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and manage the annual food service budget, ensuring cost-effective operations without compromising quality.
  • Monitor expenses, review financial reports, and implement strategies to control costs while maximizing revenue.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in food service management, preferably in an educational or institutional setting.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of kosher dietary laws and practices.
  • Familiarity with menu planning, nutrition guidelines, and food safety regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff members.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen, including budgeting and cost control.
